Substitute License Training for Short-Term Substitute Teaching

The Regional Office of Education is offering FREE short-term substitute trainings for the Central, Mendon, Western, Beardstown, Quincy, Jacksonville, Virginia, Waverly, Liberty, Pikeland, Scott-Morgan, Winchester, Franklin, Griggsville – Perry, Brown County, and AC-Central school districts! These three-hour trainings are required for short-term substitute teacher certification. Please note that districts not listed above are required to provide these trainings in-district to potential short-term substitute candidates. Please reach out to your district for further guidance.

Prospective short-term substitute teachers must have an associate degree OR have completed 60 or more semester hours of college coursework. In addition, candidates must complete a training before applying.

Once you have your license, you will be able to substitute in all grades of public schools, pre-kindergarten through grade 12. A short-term substitute license is valid until June 30, 2028.

Although not required for regular substitute teachers, the training is also open and available to those educators as well. Since these trainings are optional to individuals seeking a regular license, ALL candidates seeking this type of license can participate. Please reach out to jterwelp@roe1.net with any questions.
